Part of the Ma’jestyks series. A life-size painting of the largest animals in the world.

The painting was inspired by the Humpback whale spotted swimming in San Francisco Bay on May of 2016. The same Humpback comes back every year in the Bay Area. To get the measurement of the whale, I scaled the whale to the kite surfer surfing a few feet away from it. I could only fit the fin of the baby whale on a 48×72″ canvas. Fully grown males average 13–14 m (43–46 ft). Females are slightly larger at 15–16 m (49–52 ft)

Great whales are the carbon-capture titans of the animal world, absorbing an average of 33 tons of CO2 each throughout their lives.
